Basil Smash


In the mid-2000s, Germany made a mark on the cocktail map with simple yet deliciously considered drinks, such as the Gin Basil Smash from Jörg Meyer.


  • 2 ounce Chemist American Gin

  • .75 ounce fresh lemon juice

  • .75 ounce simple syrup (1:1)

  • 2-3 sprigs fresh basil

  • Garnish: basil leaf


  1. Muddle the basil in a shaker and add the other ingredients.

  2. Add ice and shake to chill.

  3. Fine-strain into an ice-filled glass and garnish with Basil.
